Jewish Encyclopedia Volume 3 p456 states:

Cabala. Name and Origin (Hebrew form Kabbalah = "to receive" literally, "the received or traditional lore"): The specific term for the esoteric or mystic doctrine concerning God and the universe, asserted to have come down as a revelation to elect saints from a remote past, and preserved only by a privileged few.

It should be pointed out that the Jewish “Kabbalah” relates to the Jewish “god” Jehovah and his universe, or to be more exact, the Black Lodge and the Emotional World.

Kabbalistic exegesis (critical explanation of scripture) of the Old Testament predicates (affirm as true/existent) a secret meaning that can be discerned by assigning each word of the Hebrew Bible a number through a process known as gematria, and then combining these numbers corresponding to letters, creating a new Bible unknown to the masses.

The Kabbalah makes reference to the evil forces that will control Israel "in the secrecy of the steep," when the spirits of the former zealots reincarnate on earth, forsaking their post-Second Temple exile to take up residence in Jerusalem yet again. (Zohar 184b.)
